Avenc del Racó d'en Juny

Petita però interessant cavitat de 22 m. de fondària a Tivissa.

Tivissa • Ribera d'Ebre84m22m

A small but interesting cavity 22 m deep in Tivissa, with an 11 m pit and a maximum elevation of -22.5 m.

Characteristics

Location

To get there you can start from Tivissa, where you must follow the track along which the GR-7 runs up to the height of the Pla de Vileu; once past this, the GR-7 turns right in the direction of Rasquera, while you must continue straight on along the track, for about 13 kilometres from Tivissa.

If you come from El Perelló, in the direction of Rasquera, at kilometre 6 a track that is asphalted for a good stretch branches off to the right, heading towards Tivissa; after about 10 kilometres you will reach the point described above.

This point is located at the coordinates (ETRS89, X: 303740; Y: 4538482); it is the access to Mas Llampec according to the ICGC. But according to the current owner, who is of British nationality and lives at the Mas, she informed us that it is the mas of Raboitx.

To go to the cavity there is no path of any kind; the most practical way is to head for the ridge line behind the Mas and follow it up in an E direction, as far as elevation 319; from there you continue along the ridge line in a NE direction, which is bounded on the right by the barranc del Boix. After about 300 metres and having left two barranc heads on the left, you continue along the right hydrographic bank of the second of these barrancs in a NW direction; the cavity is about 150 metres from the head of the barranc, and about 30 metres above it.

Description

Morphology

A slightly oval entrance, inclined along the bedding planes, which gives access to an 11-metre pit. This point can be considered the very middle of a broad chamber partly divided by a mass of concretion on the N side, which possibly fossilises clastic remains. Its lowest elevation is on the O side, with a pronounced slope of blocks; the continuation in depth appears to be blocked at this point by the same blocks. On climbing the ramp in a S direction, we come across several conduits. The middle one, descending through ramps of stones and between blocks, leads us to elevation -22.5, the point of maximum depth of the pit. The other two have rounded sections and are ascending.

History

As recorded in some unpublished index cards in the archive of the GES – CMB, around the year 1934, N. Llopis Lladó explored various cavities in the area and one of them has the same characteristics, naming it Avenc del Racó de Reboig (the original says Reboitx) and there is no doubt that it is the same one that members of the ERE – CEC explored on 30 May 1976.
