Description
Morphology
The mouth is cave-shaped and narrows rapidly until it gives onto a very low chamber. The total length of the cavity is 718 metres and the maximum depth is -53 metres with respect to the entrance mouth.
Speleothems
There is a decorated chamber that leads through two narrow passages to a new chamber situated at the same level as the mouth. There is also a notably decorated chamber and another fairly decorated chamber.
Progression
The mouth is cave-shaped and narrows rapidly until it gives onto a very low chamber, where we find the first pit of -6 metres. At the base we find a wide gallery that descends in two steps down to -23 metres, giving onto a gallery that crosses perpendicularly. Along it we find 4 pits that lead to the lower level. Climbing up the E side of this gallery, we reach a decorated chamber that leads through two narrow passages to a new chamber situated at the same level as the mouth.
Back in the perpendicular gallery, if we follow the W side, we climb over some blocks until we find a new gallery running almost S; this gallery, 70 metres long, first gives onto a chamber, and then onto another chamber that has a lower gallery, at one end of which opens a narrow pit of -8 metres, which also communicates with the lower level (no. 5 on the survey).
The lower level can be reached not only via the pit of -8 metres but also via the 4 pits mentioned above. The one situated furthest W (no. 4 on the survey) is -28 metres straight down. The next one (no. 3) is located right at the crossing of the entrance gallery with the perpendicular joint, and has some steps between blocks down to a vertical drop of -21 metres. The pit (no. 2) is located in the same perpendicular gallery, in an E direction, after passing a crawl on the left. This pit is -17 metres with a ledge at -10. The last pit is located at the end of the gallery on the E side; this one is -8 metres and places us in a chamber full of blocks where the cavity continues in two directions. Continuing in a S direction, we must first descend some blocks and then climb a ramp until we reach a chamber with a floor covered in large blocks and a flat ceiling, where one of the pits of the upper level (no. 5) comes in; in this area the blocks are quite unstable. The end of this chamber gives onto a new lower level, which can be reached directly by descending a pit of 11 metres, or via an intermediate-level gallery that also communicates with it. This new lower level is of large dimensions and continues in a S direction, first climbing and then descending again, until it gives onto a crawl 30 metres long that ends up becoming impenetrable. Before entering this crawl, there is an upper gallery that ends in a notably decorated chamber.
Back in the first chamber of the lower level (base of pit no. 1), we continue in a N direction; the gallery forks and further on rejoins itself. Both galleries are quite awkward because of the narrow passages along their length. Afterwards the gallery continues in a NW direction, until reaching a chamber. This point is the base of the pit of -28 metres (no. 4). This chamber is in reality a gallery of large dimensions that continues first in a NE direction and then in a N direction. At 10 metres we find some large blocks; from among them, on the right, emerges a gallery that climbs up to a chamber, where we find the base of the pit of -17 metres of the upper level (no. 2).
Returning to the main gallery, we continue until we find another fairly decorated chamber. From here several galleries emerge that communicate with one another via a gallery running NW that links them. Following them in an E direction, we reach a chamber 15 metres long with a steep slope. While in a W direction, we find a pit of -8 metres, descending which we reach the maximum depth of the cavity at -53 metres with respect to the entrance mouth. From this point the gallery continues in a N direction, until it becomes obstructed by a fall of blocks.
History
The cavity was discovered by chance in 1970 by members of the GIEM (Grup d'Investigacions Espeleològiques de Montblanc), when they were heading to visit the avencs i coves de La Febró. They descended the first pit and explored the upper level, making a topographical sketch, and also probed the pits that lead to the lower level. Subsequently, one of the members who took part in the exploration, Joan Pallisé, joined the SIS of the CE Terrassa; he informed them of the existence of this cavity, so they explored and surveyed it, but the survey was not finished and moreover they lost it. Some years later, between December 1981 and February 1982 the SIS of the CET returns there again and they make a new survey.
