Characteristics

Location

At kilometre 22 of the T-704 road (Vilaplana to La Febró) and 180 metres from the junction with the TV-7092 road (turn-off to l'Arbolí), a track leaves the N side of the road heading towards the pits of La Febró. When we reach the coll de l'Agustens we will find the GR-7 on the left of the track heading to l'Arbolí; we will follow this track until we pass under a power line; 225 metres further on we will find a turn-off to the right and from here we will continue for 360 metres until it ends in a clearing in the middle of the forest. From this point we will continue through the middle of the forest in an E direction for 95 metres, arriving at a path that is right next to the chasm of the fissure.

If we follow the path parallel to the fissure in a SE direction, when the fissure ends it begins to descend, finding on the left two secondary fissures and a little further down from these and also on the left but on flat ground, the access to entrance number 2. If, on the other hand, we follow the path in a NW direction, when we stop seeing the scree slope of the fissure, we find a path that descends steeply through the middle of the forest and leads to entrance no. 1 (Avenc del "Neng"). The coordinates correspond to entrance no. 2.

Description

Morphology

It is a group of fissures produced when the north-eastern cliff of the Motllats de la Pona tilted over the barranc de Mas del Panxo. These fissures follow a fracture line running SE to NW and have 6 entrances, although only number 1 ("Avenc del "Neng""), located at the NW end, and number 2, located at the SE end, are feasible to access; even so, by rappel one can access from any point of the fissures. The remaining entrances give onto a wild forest and cliffs that are difficult to overcome.

The group has a main fissure and a second parallel fissure that intersect each other via secondary fissures perpendicular to the former; this entire group has a length of 1009.76 metres, while the lowest point is at -44.61 metres.

Just above entrance number 2, we find another fissure parallel to the previous ones with three branches and which forms part of the group, but as happens in other large nearby fissures similar to this one, it does not physically connect with the rest of the fissures. This last section has a length of 168.50 metres, with which the group totals a length of 1178.26 metres.

Progression

From entrance number 1 ("Avenc del "Neng"") and entrance number 2 one can access the group; by rappel one can access from any point of the fissures.

History

Cited by J. Ferraté in 1918, this group of fissures had never been given much importance by anyone. Located by members of the GIEM - Club Excursionista de Montblanc, they explored and surveyed it in September 1999.
