Characteristics

Location

At kilometre 22 of the T-704 road (Vilaplana to La Febró) and 180 metres from the junction with the TV-7092 road (turn-off to l'Alforja), a track leaves the N side of the road heading towards the pits of La Febró. When we reach the coll de l'Agustens we will find the GR-7 on the left of the track heading towards l'Arbolí; we will follow this track until we pass under a power line; 500 metres further on we will find a junction, we must turn right, where there is an iron pole with a concrete base; the path passes again under the power line; when we reach the end, we will continue in a N direction until we reach the cliff. From here a large fissure can be seen, the cavity opens inside it, which cannot be seen due to the large amount of vegetation, although it is perceptible. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

The large entrance gives access to a chamber from which, on the left, a descending ramp leads to a small pit; flanking along the ramp we reach the -14 metre level. From this point we must climb back up the gallery and descend some steps and a small pit to reach the deepest point of the cavity, -24 metres. Situated again at the -14 metre level, an adjoining gallery can be climbed which exceeds the entrance level in height. The total depth of the cavity is 32 metres (-24/+8).

History

Cited by Ramon Amigó i Anglés in 1960 in the third revised and expanded edition of “Les Muntanyes de Prades, el Montsant i Serra de la Llena”, in which he already mentions the existence of a large cave inside the fissures. This group of fissures located to the NW of the Roca del Migdia belongs to the same group of fissures as the avencots dels Motllats de la Pona, from which they are separated by less than a hundred metres; in this space between both groups of fissures, we also find more superficial fissures. In 1977 Gabriel Roig (Biel) together with other members of the D.E.R. REDDIS explored and surveyed it.
