Characteristics

Location

From the Can Robert residential development, go up along carrer de les Boixaderes (or Boixeres) until reaching the last turning on the right (carrer de Granera), which makes a sharp turn to the left, near its end. At this bend is the start of the path (marked with a green Park marker) that leads to the Can Pobla track via the canal de les Bruixes. After going up the path for about 5 minutes, we reach the foot of a cliff. Here we will find, on the right, a less worn path that skirts the foot of a cliff and quickly leads us, in about 25 metres, to the mouth of the pit, located just below one of the large blocks fallen from the cliff.

The approach can also be made from the Can Pobla track where, once past the avenc del Club, the small path that descends towards the Can Robert residential development branches off to the right.

Description

Morphology

The pit has a narrow, elongated mouth (0.4 x 2.8 m). It begins with a descending, stepped ramp. After a very narrow 4-metre shaft we find ourselves before the small mouth of a 10-metre shaft. Once past this second narrow section, at 12 metres depth, the cavity changes considerably in dimensions, with an average width of one metre, and the shaft ends at the start of a boulder ramp. After descending a few metres over these boulders, we find ourselves on the last boulder, wedged between the walls. From here a vertical section begins which, 4 metres further down, we re-rig and descend a free-hanging shaft of 23.6 metres, which is the longest in the cavity. At the S end of the floor, 20 metres long and 1.5 metres average width, we find the maximum depth of the pit, at 55.3 metres.

Cavity developed within a joint of N20E direction which, coming from the cliff, connects with the mouth of the cavity. (Gatell & Anglés, 1992).

Progression

Via Pèndol: It can be accessed by making a small pendulum after descending about 3 metres of the last shaft. This leads us to a wide ledge. On one of the sides of the floor we find a small fissure that, through a crawl, gives onto the main shaft again. Returning to the ledge we find an ascending gallery 17 metres long that ends in a small chamber.

History

Cavity discovered and explored for the first time in 1972 by members of the Espeleo Club Sabadell.

Needless to say, given its dimensions, it is one of the least visited cavities in Sant Llorenç del Munt. Some years ago, members of the SIE-CEA had to abandon the exploration in the first metres upon detecting problems of hypoxia.
