Characteristics

Location

Leaving the Hospital d'Olesa along the track that leads to Can Grau, once past the small neighbourhood of Figuera, la, the track follows the riera de Begues and, after crossing it, a little further on makes a bend. On the right are the Penyes del Fuster.

The cavity is located right at the top of a crag, in the place called Penyes del Fuster, on the right bank of the riera de Begues and about 20 metres above the streambed.

The steepness of the terrain, while seeking a more accessible approach, makes it advisable to make a detour, going back upstream to climb up, working one's way up along the relief of the right slope, until we are directly below the crags, and gain access by descending to reach the top of the monolith, where just to its left the mouth of the cavity opens.

By a few metres, and because it lies on the right slope of the riera de Begues, it ceases to belong to the traditional Garraf unit, where it had been catalogued until now.

Description

Morphology

Once the mouth has been passed, one enters an irregular shaft of cylindrical configuration in its last stretch, reaching a depth of 9 metres. Halfway down this shaft a joint joins it laterally, descending 3 metres below the initial shaft. Its base, covered with blocks, shows a slight inclination towards the SW and ends in a new small shaft of a little more than 1.5 metres where the pit ends.

Other details

The cavity probably obeys the same genetic mechanism that is affecting the small crag; the fracturing and decompression generated by the riera will end up isolating a rocky fragment of it and finally the destruction of the needle and the pit.

History

The first exploration of which we have a record was carried out on 10 October 1971 by members of the GIE – CE Gràcia, who named it Avenc de les Mosques.

During the many outings that the SIE – CE Àliga carried out in the Olesa de Bonesvalls area during 1973, on 2 December 1973 a resident of Olesa accompanied two members of this group to the mouth of the pit, telling them that the few people who knew it called it Avenc de les Penyes del Fuster. They explore and survey it, but the survey was never written up in fair copy.

Shortly afterwards, in February 1974, members of the GES – CMB explore and survey it again with the aim of including it in the last volume of the Garraf catalogue. Inexplicably, Borràs confuses it with the pit explored by Faura i Sans in 1910 near the coll d'Ordal, today disappeared because of the new road layout, and catalogues it as Avenc d'en Parellada, perhaps because of the relative proximity of a farmhouse, Can Parellada, near Olesa.
