Description
Morphology
A 32 m deep pit. Structured along a large fracture running E-W, where the dominant morphology is of the clastic type.
The lower entrance is the largest of all and gives way to an elongated chamber, to the left of which another entrance to the cavity can be seen (Boca mitja). Near the entrance there is a shaft through which a joint-controlled gallery continues, ending in a collapse of blocks among which daylight from outside can be seen (Boca obstruïda).
Along the floor of the entrance chamber a gallery continues, ending suspended 4 metres above a larger gallery with the same direction. At the lowest part of this new gallery a small shaft between blocks leads to the lower gallery, approximately one metre wide. If, on the contrary, we follow the large upper part, we can climb between blocks and reach an upper chamber, from which a small conduit leads to the upper entrance.
Progression
The cavity is equipped with fixed gear, with rope handlines, cable and iron steps. Do not trust either its condition or the apparent safety it conveys. The anchors in certain places are not doubled and the state of the anchorages is deficient.
If you are not familiar with the cavity, it is recommended to do the traverse in an ascending direction; if done the other way round, the first narrow passage encountered prevents you from seeing where you are going and, therefore, one may have difficulties in placing the feet optimally for progression and personal safety.
If reasonably skilled, the traverse is done in just over 15 minutes.
History
The first exploration of which we have record was carried out by members of the ERE – CEC (D. Schibi and F. Monsonís) on 24 April 1968. Later known by speleologists from Reus from the mid-1970s. Biel Roig makes a brief reference in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (1984), corresponding to the comarca of la Ribera d'Ebre.
At the end of 1986 it was relocated by members of the GEP-AE Pedraforca (Barcelona), who explored it and made a careful survey.
Bio
Possible bat colony inside the cavity.
