Avenc de la Malesa

Avenc de la Malesa

Avenc de 12 m. de profunditat a les calcàries del turó de la Malesa (Sant Llorenç del Munt)

Castellar del Vallès • Vallès Occidental51m12m

A 12 m deep pit in the limestones of the turó de la Malesa, in Sant Llorenç del Munt, explored by the SIS del CE Terrassa in 1980.

Characteristics

Location

On the N slope of the turó de la Malesa. To get there, take a path that leaves to the left of the road from Terrassa to Castellar del Vallès, shortly before crossing the bridge over the riu Ripoll. This path continues level as far as the turó de la Malesa, where it ends in a small square. From here a small path leads us to the riu Ripoll, in front of the well-known Gorg d'en Fitó; a little before reaching the river we can observe on our left the chaos of blocks produced by the fractures in the rock. At the intersection of two of these fractures is the Avenc de la Malesa, in a spot very hidden by vegetation. Approximate coordinates of low precision.

Description

Morphology

The 3 x 1 metre entrance gives way to a gallery on a ramp where, a few metres from the entrance, a fairly narrow gallery 7 metres long with an inclined section crosses it; past this we find a 1 metre step, then we continue a few metres until we find a gallery on one side; we leave this one and continue along the previous one, which from this point begins to climb until we reach a fork produced by a large 'topi'. The two galleries are narrow and connect to a chamber surrounded by large, not very stable blocks, but between them one can climb up a few metres.

Returning to the previous gallery, after the step, we can continue along it, after descending a 1 metre step that leads us to a pit; from here, in the same direction as the step, an ascending gallery continues and crosses perpendicularly with a second gallery; this latter one is 7 metres long and allows us to stand upright at the N end of the gallery. The ceiling lowers, while the floor widens; on one side we can see a small pit of 1.5 metres.

Progression

If we descend the pit we had left behind, at the beginning of the ascending gallery, we can continue along a 4 metre crawlway to a small chamber from which, by means of a short gallery that continues horizontally and ends after a few metres, while if we descend the step, we can continue along a descending gallery that goes down among rubble to a point that becomes impracticable.

History

The only reports we know of are those given by members of the SIS del CE Terrassa following their explorations in 1980 in this strip of limestones in the southern sector of Sant Llorenç del Munt.
