Characteristics

Location

From the coll d'Estenalles follow the ridge track that leads from the Mata to the Coma d'en Vila. About 200 metres before reaching the coll de Garganta, on the right, we will find the head of a torrent that descends towards the Font Freda and a path that leads to the aforementioned spring. This path descends very gently through the woods, until it crosses a small rocky area; after this, the pit is 3 metres above the path, among some holm oaks.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, 2 x 0.6 metres, gives access to a shaft 8 metres deep that at 3 metres lengthens and at 6 metres widens slightly. At the foot of this a gently sloping ramp continues that leads us under a chimney. At the end of the ramp the cavity ends in a very narrow crawl.

History

Known since ancient times, it is already mentioned in the Guia monogràfica de Sant Llorenç del Munt published by the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa (1935).

We have evidence of some visits made by members of the GES – CMB in 1960. It is not, however, until May 1982 that after multiple searches by members of the GES – CMT and the SIS – CET, it is located by Joan Boixader (GES – CMT) thanks to the directions of his father, Rossend Boixader, for many years tenant farmer of the house of the Mata.
