Location

It is located about 500 metres in direction N55W from the chapel of Sant Jordi, just where the plain ends and the slope towards the river Segre begins.

The best path is to go to the corrals located to the N of the chapel of Sant Jordi; behind these a track starts that we will follow for 340 metres, at this point we will turn left through the middle of the scrub, and continue in direction SW for 145 metres, where we will find the fig tree that grows from inside the pit.

Description

Morphology

The cavity is formed by a joint in which the numerous blocks have divided it into two levels. The entrance mouth is formed by a shaft of 1.4 metres; at its base a fig tree grows that gives the cavity its name.

Speleothems

In one chamber we find a large flowstone on the E wall.

Progression

A narrow passage and a ramp lead us to a chamber where we find a large flowstone on the E wall; we continue through a crawlway among blocks until reaching a new chamber with characteristics similar to the previous one. From here we must continue descending about 7 metres until reaching, through one end of the joint, the bottom of the cavity at 18.4 metres.

History

Explored by GEFOMA on 23 April 1970, based on the indications of the forest repopulation workers, who came in their entirety from Fuente de Cantos (Badajoz).
