Characteristics

Location

From the main town centre of the municipality, Sant Joan de Mediona, take the carrer del Molí and follow it alongside the riera de Mediona until reaching a turn-off to the right that climbs towards the Can Verdaguer residential area. Once here, follow the streets that climb towards the small summit of the Talaia and, shortly before arriving, take the street that branches off to the right and continues along the Clivelleres track. Very soon you come to a fork in the tracks and must follow the right-hand one (Camí de Clivelleres i Bolet). Shortly before reaching the ruins of the mas de Clivelleres, the track makes a sharp turn to the right and climbs towards the Turó de Clivelleres. Once on the upper flats, the track describes a wide bend (left-right) and from its centre, on the left, a small path branches off that in a few metres leads to the mouth of the pit.

Through a collapse entrance, after overcoming a drop of about 5 m, one enters a wide chamber with a strongly inclined floor occupied by a large quantity of boulders and rubble. It is about 20 m in maximum length, about 15 m in width and has a maximum height of 5 m. At the lowest point of the chamber the maximum depth is reached, with no evident continuation.

History

Certainly known for many years by the people of Mediona.

Virella (1978) already mentions it without providing practically any data. The only more specific reference we had is a brief note and survey (Rafecas, 1995) made by members of the GEP – AE Pedraforca (Barcelona) in 1992.

At the end of September 2020, Montse Mañosa and Jordi Navarro (CEC) visited it and finished documenting it.
