Olèrdola • Alt Penedès17m11m

An 11-metre-deep pit in Olèrdola, with an entrance of 40X30 cm, a shaft of -8 metres and a floor plan of 17.50 metres of passage.

Characteristics

Location

From Vilafranca del Penedès we will follow the BV-2119 road towards the centre of Moja; from the southern part of this, where the sports facilities are, we will follow a tarmac path that after passing by the mas Granell leads to can Castellví. The cavity is located about 20 metres above the mas, but it is difficult to find because of the vegetation and the small dimensions of the entrance, so it is more practical to ask at the mas for the location of the cavity.

Morphology

The entrance, of reduced dimensions (40X30 cm), gives access to the only shaft of -8 metres deep, originated at the expense of a joint of N-NE orientation, which is the one that forms the cavity. The floor plan of the cavity has 17.50 metres of passage, with an average width of 0.60 metres.

Progression

On the E side, and once a chaos of blocks that forms a small step has been passed, one descends to the maximum level of the cavity, located at -11, 50 metres.

History

Known since ancient times at can Castellví, the first explorations of which we have news were carried out in 1973 by the GE Pedraforca and the Gelera in a joint exploration, and the SIRE-UEC in a later exploration the same year.
