Località

We will set out from Vilafranca del Penedès along the C-15z road, heading towards the village of Canyelles; when we pass km 8 we will leave the car in a widening and continue on foot without a path. Below the C-15 motorway, we will cross to the other side. Below a viaduct, built so that the riera de Canyelles can pass, on the other side of the riera one must climb up a very steep slope, until we find the rock shelter, very visible, and access is via a lateral joint.

Morfologia

At la Roca Foradada two cavities open. The rock shelter, totally hanging from the crag, has dimensions of 9 m in length by 6 m in depth and 4 m in maximum height. It has two entrances and a fissure at its back that facilitates access.

Beside it we find another gallery in the form of an ascending ramp that is 6 m in length and about 4 m in height; being very close, they do not quite connect.

Storia

Known since remote times. According to some local scholars, this place was used by bandits and thieves during the 18th and 19th centuries to assault stagecoaches; it was also used during the five years of the Carlist Wars to hide.
