Bellver de Cerdanya • Cerdanya

A 20 m deep pit near the small village of Ordèn (Bellver de Cerdanya). It appears to have disappeared due to collapse.

Caratteristiche

Località

At km. 196.6 of the N-260 road (Puigcerdà – la Seu d'Urgell) and shortly before entering Bellver de Cerdanya, a small road branches off that climbs to the small villages of Ordèn and Talltendre. To the west of Ordèn flows the torrent de Prat de Codines, which further down becomes the torrent d'Ulldebou (or Cap de Bou).

From the village a path leads off towards the SW towards the torrent de Codines; at the point where it crosses it, one must follow the streambed for some 40 m and through wild vegetation that makes progress difficult. On the left slope, a crag of some 6 m, half dismantled and at whose foot the obstructed mouth of the pit appears to be.

Descrizione

Morfologia

We only know that it is a pit 20 metres deep of clastic origin.

Everything suggests that many years ago, the pit became completely collapsed due to the fall of a part of the crag above the original mouth. Between the blocks an opening of some 20 cm remains, through which a strong current of air emerges.

Progressione

We have no record that the cave was surveyed.

Storia

We have a record that the first exploration was carried out by members of GES – CMB in July 1959, remaining unpublished and attributing to it a depth of 15 m. Years later it was re-explored by C. Ribera, M. Canals and R. Viñas (ERE – CEC) on 31 January 1968, including a very brief note in their publication on the sector (1970). We do not know whether it has been visited again subsequently. The fact is that nothing more has ever been heard of it. Since 2014, the colleagues of the espeleodijous have made countless attempts to locate it without result. Finally, with information from local people, they made two more sweeps during August 2019 and were able to locate what everything suggests had been the pit, totally covered by a pile of blocks of considerable dimensions.

Note from Espeleoíndex: In the book “La Fou de Bor i cavitats de l'Alta Vall del Segre” (1970), a photograph appears (photo 44) showing a caver ascending (or descending) a magnificent pit with an elektron. The caption says: Entrada de l'Infern d'en Martí. We have a feeling that this caption is erroneous and that in reality the photograph could correspond to the Forat de les Gralles, also in Bellver, just like the previous one, number 43.
