Caratteristiche

Località

In the Motllats (Capafonts). 140m north of the well-known cavity Forat de Pere Pòstol, 40m east of the point where the track that passes beside the aforementioned Forat ends and becomes a footpath.

The approach on foot can be made in about 45min along the footpath that climbs from the Coll Roig (road from Montral to Capafonts) up to the Portell de la Mariàngela and leaves us on the pla dels Motllats. One possibility, if access is available via the track that climbs from the Coll de Capafonts up to the Motllats by the Creu Trencada (in very poor condition, suitable only for 4x4 vehicles from the Creu Trencada onwards), is the itinerary for accessing the Forat de Pere Pòstol.

Descrizione

Morfologia

In a small depression, where the W lip is a small 3m rise, beneath which the entrance to the cavity opens in the form of a descending tight crawl.

Once past the entrance, a descending chamber of ample dimensions (some 10mx10m) opens up with some blocks on the floor, being closed on all sides.

Progressione

A large block that covered the entrance seemed to have been placed there deliberately. On 18 September 2022, during a prospecting trip in the area, to check points marked with LIDAR cartography, Joan Carles Juderias and Josep Guarro located the entrance of a possible cavity, but a large block at the mouth prevented them from entering. Fifteen days later, on 2 October, they returned with Jordi Perera and managed to remove the block from the mouth and were able to access the cavity, which unfortunately ends after a few metres.

Storia

Certainly known for a long time by the former shepherds of the area.

Now (January 2023), we realise that in all probability it is the same cavity that around 1981-1982 members of the SIEP – CE Poblet (Barcelona) explored, calling it Avenc BV-15, and they published a very brief note in their bulletin (No. 14 – 1982) and shortly afterwards it was recorded in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (No. 7 – 1984). Both by its situation and by its characteristics it coincides with the Forat del Portell. 40 years ago the large block that plugged the mouth was not there.
