Caratteristiche

Località

On the C-13 road heading from Sort to Llavorsí, 500 metres after passing Rialp, we will turn left towards Escàs. At the entrance to this village, on the right, we will find the cemetery; from here a local path leads to Surp, which we will follow until we reach the point where it crosses the power line, where we find a pole of this line; a few metres further on and to the right a faint trail branches off that soon leads us to the fissure.

Although the information places it in Escàs (Rialp), it is actually in Altrón (Sort).

Descrizione

Morfologia

It is a fissure right next to the crag, about 25 metres long, and between 1 and 2 metres wide. The fissure follows a NE direction, the SW side being the highest part. Almost halfway along the outer route the fissure begins to take on a steep incline, until it basically reaches the depth that it has inside the fissure itself at the deepest point. The rest of the fissure has an average drop of between 2 and 4 metres.

Progressione

The deepest point is reached from the SW part of the fissure, via a shaft about 12 metres deep.

Storia

Known forever in Escàs, it is said that during the war (1936-39) people from the village went down it with ropes to hide the religious images there in order to prevent them from being burned.

Speleologically it has never been cited. The writer Pep Coll publicised it in his book Guia dels indrets mítics i llegendaris del Pallars Sobirà as well as in a report on the programme Espai Terra broadcast by TV3 on 1-7-2010.
