Descrizione
Morfologia
By a stone staircase one descends through the wide entrance down to the floor, where this forms a pronounced ramp until reaching a chamber about 25 metres in diameter. On the left of the chamber we reach the lowest point of the cavity, -23 metres. Continuing south, we find a small chamber with two continuations; on the left it continues for a few metres through a crawlway until it sumps; on the right a gallery continues until reaching a conduit totally eroded by water, in which materials such as Gypsum and Slate stand out. The continuation remains obstructed by collapses.
Idrologia
At the lowest point of the cavity, -23 metres, we find a water level about 3 metres deep by two metres wide and about 15 metres long.
Progressione
By a stone staircase one descends through the wide entrance down to the floor. Once past the fence, on the left we find a low wall with a metal grille door, which gives access to the cavity by means of some stairs.
Storia
This cavity is known in the region as cova del Drac. Known forever and used by the people of the house as a pantry, inside the staircase for accessing it and the building are still preserved. Speleologically, until the 90s there was only news of the cave from some exploration note or biospeleological citations, although it was quite visited by cavers. At the end of the 1980s it is surveyed by GIRES, but this was not published until 1993. In 1990 it is surveyed again by SIE-CEA.
Toponym: The name “Saverneda” was given to it because it appeared recorded in the old editions of the maps of the area; at least, in the same farmhouse we can see the old signage made in wrought iron, naming it “Sabarneda”. According to the gazetteer of toponymy of Catalonia, the correct name is that of “Savarneda”.
Note biospeleologiche
Coleoptera, Leiodidae, Pallaresiella pallaresana (Jeannel): 16 specimens, 29-X-2017, Serrano-Roca leg.
