Località

From the Vilanova de Meià road to Pas Nou, we will turn left onto the track that goes to the abandoned village of Rubíes. Once past the junction to the ermita de Meià, we will continue along the track towards Rubíes until we find the second turning on the right; we will go up this path as far as the next turning, this time on the left and in very poor condition. From here it will be necessary to climb straight on towards the cliff where there is a torrent gully passage that places us below the pit, which is reached by climbing up a short scramble on the left.

Morfologia

The 8 x 3 metre entrance opens about 25 metres above the base of the upper cliff of the Montsec de Rubíes at the Roca Alta. The cavity is formed by a single 16-metre-deep shaft, which has a ledge at -7 metres, which is none other than the lower part of the entrance opening. The base has a slight inclination towards the north.

Progressione

To access the cavity, it will be necessary to climb up to a small terrace situated on the left of the cavity; from here it will be necessary to climb up through a fissure that will place us at the entrance opening of the cavity.

Storia

Known since long ago by the shepherds of Vilanova de Meià, one of them known as “Xamàn” indicated its location to some members of GEFOMA in the mid-“70”s, but they did not get to explore it. These returned in 1986 together with other members of the SIE, of which they form part, and carried out the exploration.
