Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance is 12 metres high by 4 wide and leads into a fairly straight gallery through which the water flows. The sumping gallery is 2 metres in diameter and almost horizontal for 20 metres; from there a narrower descending ramp (1 m) begins with some small unstable blocks down to the level of -7 m. Past the last narrow section the gallery rises again, passing beside a large block that almost obstructs the way, up to the level of -1 m. In total it has a vertical range of 16 metres (+13/-3), the highest part in the sector of the sala de la Duna, and the lowest almost at the end of the sump.

Concrezioni

The gallery that leaves the small chamber has a large quantity of formations. In the sala de la Duna several tonnes of sand accumulate.

Idrologia

Water flows through the gallery, at the same time accompanied by the PVC pipes that supply the village of Rivert. At one point in the gallery a small dam has been built that forces you to get wet. From one point the water occupies almost the entire section of the gallery, creating a sumping vault in times of flood. A few metres past this point, we find a new sumping vault that sometimes leaves about 15 centimetres free; this is where the sumping gallery begins. In the sala de la Duna the sand comes from a sump located in the same chamber. Warning must be given of the danger of this gallery, which in times of flood is completely flooded by water. Since the Font de Rivert supplies the whole village with drinking water, it is advisable that explorations not be carried out during the low-water period.

Progressione

From the entrance, the gallery continues comfortably until reaching a chamber occupied by large blocks. Past this point, a few metres further on, we find a new sumping vault that sometimes leaves about 15 centimetres free; this is where the sumping gallery begins. At this point we find two consecutive narrow passages that make the air bottles brush the ceiling. At this point we are 70 metres from the start of the sump; there is a small chamber in which a small fissure can be seen in the ceiling that could be climbed until the depth gauge read 0.5 m, without however emerging into any air pocket. Returning to the small chamber, the obvious continuation is downwards through another vertical fissure, but so narrow that it does not allow passage with the bottles. Back at the vault where the sump begins, we continue to the right. Once past the vault we will find a flooded gallery that after a few metres places us in a small chamber, from which a gallery leaves in the opposite direction to the one we had been following. This gallery leads us to the sala de la Duna. From this chamber small conduits leave which end after a few metres.

Storia

Known since ancient times, the first speleological references we have are from the GE Badalona in 1961 and Unisub in 1973. In 1997 Josep Guarro reached the end of the sump; in addition the SIE explored the galeria dels Rivertons, which was indicated to them by José Espinosa, a resident of Rivert who in a year of drought went into the cave discovering this new gallery.
