Caratteristiche

Località

At km 7.98 of the BV-2111 road (Sant Pere de Ribes – Olivella), a track leaves to the left and runs parallel to the Begues stream until it crosses it and ends in some vineyards. Go up towards the electricity pylon located higher up, to the E of it, continue for about a hundred metres along a well-marked path, until you see, on the left and above, a small cliff where the cavities are located.

Descrizione

Morfologia

These are two small caves formed by two independent and parallel conduits. The larger one forms a slightly ascending gallery, 6 m long by about 4 m wide, which allows you to stand upright, and it ends in small impenetrable conduits. On the right, the neighbouring cave has a gallery 5 m long, a floor of sediments and a height of 70-80 cm.

There is an archaeological excavation. In the Inventory of Archaeological Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya (invarque), they are erroneously cited as a synonym of the nearby Coves de Roca Rubí.

Storia

The first reference we know of is given by members of SIS – CE Terrassa who visited them in 1973 (the inscription SIS in paint is still preserved in a corner of the cova petita). From a topography unpublished until now, we know that Josep Castell and his companions from Vilanova i la Geltrú visited them in July 1984. We do not know when an archaeological survey was carried out.
