Caratteristiche

Località

The cavity is located in the area of the Plans de Mandúria (el Port). It is reached via the track (4×4 essential) that goes around the Mola along the camí de Llinars, continuing along the main track until reaching where the track makes two tight bends to the right, below the coll de Llinars. The main track is left to take the track on the right, which goes to the Vall d’en Caubet, where practically at the end of the track and just below the power line the car is left.

On foot, one descends through various terraced fields with dry-stone walls built by man until reaching a power pylon numbered 12, where on the left, barely 50 m along the wall, the entrance of the cavity is found.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cavity has two entrances. The larger entrance has dimensions of 4.65 m wide and 1.63 m high. Continuing along the wall in an E direction the second entrance is found, a crawl of more reduced dimensions, 40×30 cm.

The cave is entered through the larger entrance, which forms the main chamber, with a maximum width of 6.32 m, a length of 24.59 m and a maximum height of 3.94 m.

Progressing through this chamber and before a passage where the ceiling lowers to 40 cm from the floor, in a W direction a rising gallery of more contained dimensions is found that divides into two branches: one heading S, where there is a crawl that connects with the main chamber, and one heading N, which again divides into two.

At this point one can continue in an N direction and exit the cavity through the smaller entrance, or continue in a W direction through an ascending boulder chaos where there is a chamber with a Sand floor about 6 m in diameter and 6.30 m in height.

Returning to the main chamber, passing the low-ceiling passage, barely 10 m in an E direction a rising fracture opens that leads to two chambers joined by the same fracture, this branch ending in a chamber with a Sand ceiling of 4.36×3.22 m.

At the end of the main chamber there is a gour on the right with remains of ancient ceramics.

As a possible continuation there is a small crawl in an S direction that blows air constantly. Passing the crawl of reduced dimensions, one reaches a larger chamber full of boulders. On the left, under a large boulder, there is another cleared narrow passage; passing it one reaches the final part of the cavity, where there are some fossil meanders of reduced width that lead to the final sinkhole.

Progressione

The exploration work is carried out by the Secció de Barrancs i Espeleo of the UEC Tortosa. Work is currently being done at the final sinkhole.

Altri dettagli

At the end of the main chamber there is a gour on the right with remains of ancient ceramics, which suggests that the cavity has been known since antiquity and that the locals entered it to collect water.

Storia

Located in early April 2019 by Mario Carbó. On Sunday 14 April, together with Jordi Ortiz, Jordi Centelles, Lluís Duran, Sarai Ramírez and Vicent Barraquet, of the Secció de Barrancs i Espeleo of the UEC Tortosa, they make a first exploration of the cavity.

On Thursday 1 May, Jordi Ortiz, Jordi Centelles, Mario Carbó, Sarai and Vicent return to do clearing work at the forat bufador. They pass the narrow passage and access the rest of the known cavity, leaving some questions pending.

On Sunday 19 May, Jordi Reverté, Jordi Centelles, Mario Carbó, Lluís Duran, Sarai and Vicent continue the clearing work at the final sinkhole and finish the survey of the cavity known to date.
