Altri dettagli
There is great difficulty in observing the paintings since the colouring they present is blurred and not very intense. Apart from the figures that have been identified, there is a whole series of shapeless spots of colouring, at times very difficult to make out because of the limestone layer covering them. The panel of paintings consists of 22 pictograms: human figures, some with limbs flexed in a dancing position, groupings of spots and dots, strokes, remains of pigment and indeterminate motifs, as well as a possible quadruped. The human figures are of schematic tradition. All the figures are red, but it must be borne in mind that when they are not damp they show a variation in colour, especially the human representations, and take on a pink colouring.
Storia
In September 1921 the rock paintings of the Cova del Pi were discovered by Mr. Poch. A month later, a commission headed by professor Hernández-Pacheco and the discoverer himself, Mr. Poch, went from Madrid to draw them and take all the data of their location. In November of the same year, the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC) learned of the discovery and sent Mr. Colominas who, together with Mr. Lluís Brull, went to see the discovered paintings and discovered four more, two of which are the paintings of the Cova del Ramat and the Cova del Cingle. The complex of these three cavities is known as the coves de la Vilella.
Catalogued as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1998.
