Descrizione

Morfologia

The shelter where the paintings are found consists of a double concavity covered by the same overhang and oriented to the NW, about 11 metres long, with a height of between 5 and 6 m and a depth of 2 metres.

Progressione

No survey is available.

Altri dettagli

The only documented pictogram is located in the left concavity, at a height of 1.2 m from the current floor, and corresponds to a stylised naturalistic-style archer in a reddish-brown colour. The figure, incomplete, is oriented to the right. It has an oval head from the lower part of which the arms emerge directly. One of them, straight forward, holds a large bow. The other, very poorly preserved, appears bent over the body. On the left part of the head, remains of pigment of the same colour as the figure can be seen. This archer fits very clearly, from a typological point of view, into what is conventionally called "Levantine" art.

Storia

In September 1921 the rock paintings of the Cova del Pi were discovered by Mr. Poch. A month later, a commission headed by Professor Hernández-Pacheco and the discoverer himself, Mr. Poch, went there from Madrid to draw them and record all the data on their location. In November of the same year, the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC) learned of the discovery and sent Mr. Colominas who, together with Mr. Lluís Brull, went to see the discovered paintings and discovered four more, two of which are the paintings of the Cova del Ramat and the Cova del Cingle. The group of these three cavities is known as the coves de la Vilella. Catalogued as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1998.
