Caratteristiche

Località

The cavity is located at Coll d'Ares (Àger). It can be reached by the road that climbs from Àger up to the Montsec d'Ares; on reaching the top one continues in the direction of Sant Esteve de la Sarga and, once the Coll d'Ares has been descended, one turns left, descending through the centre of the valley in a westerly direction until reaching the level of the first cliff; from here one follows along the base of this cliff in a westerly direction for 165 metres, where the cavity is found. It can also be reached by following the road that leads to the astronomical observatory; once past a bend located 450 metres from the road barrier and when this begins to climb, on the left there is a huge marker 1.50 metres high, from which, descending straight in the direction of the valley floor, the cavity is found at the base of a small crag.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cave mouth measures 1.65x2.06 metres and opens at the base of a small crag. The gallery runs for a little more than 4 metres with similar dimensions. At this point a steep ascending ramp begins, the gallery dividing into two parallel conduits but at different levels, which at two metres along communicate by means of a window. The lower conduit ends after a few metres; at this point a very narrow passage, currently impassable, allows one to see on the other side a wider gallery 3.50 metres long. Continuing along the upper conduit, 3 metres before reaching the end of the climb there is a chimney 5.30 metres high. Once at the top of the gallery, the ceiling drops rapidly and after a few metres it is filled up by sediments.
