Caratteristiche

Località

By the road that climbs from Àger up to the Montsec d'Ares, on reaching the top we will continue in the direction of Sant Esteve de la Sarga; once we have descended the Coll d'Ares we will turn left in the direction of the astronomical observatory. After 340 metres we will leave the road to head S for 90 metres, where we will find a one-metre-high cairn indicating the position of the cavity.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cave mouth measures 1.8x2 metres and opens in a depression in the ground. The ceiling drops quickly and the floor also descends in a gentle slope as far as 6 metres in, where we find a passage 40 centimetres in diameter. Once past it, the gallery rises again until reaching the base of a 5.3-metre pit, which can easily be passed by exiting to the outside through a mouth 0.5 metres in diameter.

Storia

Cavity known to the shepherds of Sant Esteve de la Sarga since time immemorial. In 1963 it was explored by the GIE of the CE Gràcia, appearing cited for the first time in the magazine Cavernas no. 9 (1967). The cavity appears cited again in the monographic issue devoted to the Montsec of the magazine Espeleòleg no. 11/12 (1970), where in an attempt at linguistic normalisation they change the name Padró to Pedró. The shepherd who accompanied us there, a good connoisseur of the area, insisted to us that the name had to be written with A, possibly in reference to someone's surname.

It had always been located in the municipality of Sant Esteve de la Sarga and therefore in the comarca of Pallars Jussà, when in reality it belongs to the municipality of Àger and consequently to the comarca of Noguera.
