Caratteristiche

Località

El Puig Ventós (or Puigventós, according to the source) is a hill 606 m high that separates the municipality of Olesa de Montserrat (to the south) from the municipality of Vacarisses (to the north). A little to the south of the summit is the rocky ridge crowned by the Creu de Saba. Following this ridge, in an easterly direction, the mouth of the cavity is located, heavily overgrown and somewhat difficult to find. It is 150 metres from the point where the track, which runs from Sant Pere Sacama to Can Mimó, crosses this rocky ridge.

Storia

The cavity was explored for the first time on the afternoon of 2 May 1982, after an exhaustive prospection of Puig Ventós, by Xavier Badiella, Ferran Aguirre and Miquel Àngel Martínez, all of them members of the SIS del CE de Terrassa. Later they reported it to Jaume Morera, a member of the Centre Muntanyenc i de Recerques Olesà and very knowledgeable about that area. He indicated to them the name of the cavity: Cova de Can Colesa. Immediately afterwards, Jaume Morera's team carried out archaeological excavations there and, when these ended, the cavity was forgotten. Twenty years later it was cited in the Inventari Espeleològic de Catalunya (Miñarro, 2002), practically without data and with erroneous bibliography.

Subsequently, Joan Soler, from Olesa de Montserrat, pointed out (Google Maps) a pit at Puig Ventós, but it has been verified that it is the same cavity.
