Caratteristiche

Località

Going from Terrassa to Manresa along the C-58, at the height of Torreblanca the BV-1211 road branches off towards Olesa de Montserrat. Shortly before km 3 and the Mimó bridge, a turn-off appears that passes under the motorway (C-16) and reaches the Mimó farmhouse. To the N of this house the so-called Carena de Torrella can be seen. The cave lies below the highest point of this ridge.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance presents itself as a tall, narrow fissure that must be climbed. Once the passage is overcome by scrambling almost up to the ceiling, a conduit begins that at first must be followed stooping and leads to a drop of almost 2 metres that connects with a chamber about 7 metres long by 2 wide, from which a series of side conduits branch off that soon become impenetrable. From the entrance, and along the lower part, there is another conduit, very narrow, that connects with the lower part of the aforementioned drop and chamber.

Storia

Known to the local people since ancient times, who believed it was the hiding place of the thieves who attacked the pilgrims going to Montserrat along the Camí Romeu.

The first speleological visit of which we have record is the one carried out by members of the GES – CMB in June 1955, who named it Cova de Can Mimó d'Olesa and gave it 25 metres of length, as recorded in the GES activity book. Later, three members of the ERE-CEC (O. Escolà; B. Poderós and JMª Colom) visited it on 7 April 1963. According to Escolà, during the exploration they had a problem; it seems the cave was occupied by a fox and the presence of fleas was so enormous that after a while inside they had to come out in a hurry with their bodies and clothes full of these insects. It is el colmo for a biospeleologist!. By the way, in the ERE activity book the cavity was also recorded as Cova de Can Mimó, since they did not know the correct name.

A few years later (1967 or 1968) members of the SIRE – UEC Olesa were informed by people from can Mimó of the existence of the cavity and they are the ones who began to find the first archaeological remains. In 1981 an excavation campaign was carried out that catalogued the cavity as an Epicardial Neolithic sepulchral cave.
