Località

The cavity opens within the quarry on the hill of Can Aymerich, beneath the Montemar residential development in Castelldefels, near km. 19 of the C-245 road. A few metres to the right is the important palaeontological site known as “Cova del Rinoceront”. The space occupied by the old quarry has been put to different uses in recent years and access is not always feasible.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance opens above a debris cone from the quarry excavations. The cavity consists mainly of a straight, wide gallery in which fallen blocks from the ceiling abound. At the end there is a small niche above (point of maximum elevation difference: + 6 m) and a narrow, short gallery in the lower part.

Storia

The cavity was opened by the quarry excavations around the 1950s, but it was preserved because the working of the quarry ended shortly afterwards. It had gone unnoticed in speleological catalogues until 1984, when members of GE Pedraforca (Barcelona) explored and surveyed it.
