Caratteristiche

Località

Located beneath the Torre Barona, 20 metres from the old road from Castelldefels to Sitges. Past the roundabout where the entrance to the old Ca n'Aymerich quarry is, we will see some old lime kilns on our right. Continuing about 50 metres further, we will reach the first enclosure where the houses begin; if we follow the fence towards the mountain side, we will see the entrance to the cave. It is located on private property inside the fence.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Gallery open to the roof in its first 7 metres. From there on the passage becomes narrower and the roof lowers until it becomes impassable.

Altri dettagli

It appears to be a cavity formerly located on the coastline and where salt corrosion phenomena are observed.

Storia

It is certainly a cavity known since time immemorial, but the first speleological visit of which we have record is the one carried out by members of the ERE – CEC on 18 September 1960, and they baptise it with this name. They return on 13 October of the same year to make the survey, which had remained unpublished until now in the ERE archive, and we update the record with its inclusion.

In January 1973, members of the SIS de Terrassa visit it and rename it as cova Petita de Castelldefels.

In 2006, members of the GE de Badalona locate it and survey it again, proposing to change the name to Cova Petita del Turó de la Torre Barona. (The Espeleoindex team considers it more appropriate to keep as the main name the one that has appeared from the beginning in all the catalogues of the area).
