Caratteristiche

Località

On the SE slope of the Solanes hill.

Leaving Sant Feliu de Codines along the road to Gallifa, you reach the municipal sports area of Solanes. From here you must follow the street (track) of the Penya Esportiva. Leave the vehicle before the first bend, on the right, and go down a damaged track until it ends. At this point a path begins with stretches that are difficult to follow. Without losing or gaining height, and after crossing some old terraced fields, the trail places us on a clearer path that descends steeply towards the foot of the cliff where the cavity is found.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Cavity formed by two parallel galleries that converge 4 metres from the entrance. The one situated further W is horizontal and of scant dimensions.

In both galleries fault mirrors can be seen and the floors are full of sharp rubble, possibly fault breccia material.

It should be noted that the initial morphology of the cavity has been greatly altered by the various archaeological excavations that have been carried out. For those interested in this subject it is recommended to visit the municipal museum of Can Xifreda, in Sant Feliu de Codines.

Progressione

To access the second gallery it is necessary to climb over a block and follow an ascending ramp while it becomes narrower.

Storia

Despite being known since very ancient times by the people of the area, it does not appear in the old speleological catalogues and remained practically unpublished, although it was the subject of various archaeological works carried out by the Grup d'Arqueologia TALP of Sant Feliu de Codines, directed by the local scholar Martí Garriga i Argullós around the 1970's together with the neighbouring Cova de Solanes.
