Characteristics

Location

From the N-260 road at the height of Martinet, we will turn off onto the LV-4055 road towards Montellà; shortly after (500 metres) we will turn right towards Béixec. Once past Rubíllec we will turn right until we find another turn-off, also to the right, which will take us to Béixec; from there we will continue towards el Querforadat, and at the first bend where the house of Vima can already be seen we must descend towards the bottom of the valley; it is a very steep descent and a few zigzags are needed.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, about 2 metres in diameter, gives access to a shaft of -26 metres in depth; the ramp at its base leads us to a step that places us at the point of maximum depth at -28 metres.

Progression

Our colleagues from Espeleodijous have modified the original survey (blue line), without measuring, to indicate that the entrance is open vertically and not in the form of a window. Care must be taken when looking for it, because the pit is hidden by the vegetation.

History

The first exploration took place on 24 and 25 September 1960, together with la Tuta de Bèixac, by V. Cusó, J. Llopis, J. Sabartés (ERE - CEC) and M. Soler (GEB), although it remained practically unpublished until members of ACE Mataró re-explored it around 1968 and published it.

Although it has sometimes been cited as la Tuta de Bima, the current and official toponymy (ICC and Nomenclàtor) refers to Vima. This name is given to it because of its proximity to Mas de Vima; this house is historically known for having been lived in during the 16th century by Joan Grau i Ribó, baron of Toloriu, and his wife Xipahuatzín Moctezuma (baptised as María and daughter of the Aztec emperor); legend says that the treasure of Moctezuma is buried here.
