Characteristics

Location

S of the small village of Rojals, specifically at the NW end of the Serret dels Avencs which, on the ICGC cartography, appears recorded under the place name Cantacorbs, in the Muntanyes de Prades.

Access is gained starting from the vicinity of the Cantacorbs pit, descending the crag through a gap between blocks that leads to a small channel with abundant shrubby vegetation. A few metres into the descent we approach the right-hand side where a corridor-shaped opening begins that leads to the mouth of the tunnel.

Description

Morphology

The Túnel de Cantacorbs is a singular feature among these cavities, which owe their origin to the progressive destruction of these craggy reliefs. It is 20 metres long and has widths from 1 metre to 4, with a final narrow passage between blocks to emerge outside again. The whole complex has its ceiling formed by an accumulation of fitted blocks.

Leaving the tunnel we find ourselves at the foot of a craggy semicircular slope where the falls of large blocks form a platform of large blocks that further down will gradually turn into scree of smaller dimensions.

Progression

In this accumulation of large blocks, generally impracticable passages are hinted at, except the one we will call the Esquerdeta, where its 6 metres of drop could be free-climbed down, at coordinates X:342208, Y:4576954 and located 15 metres horizontally from the SE mouth of the Tunnel.

History

Located in 2014 by two members of the SIE-CEA (Josu and Lluïsa) who initially called it l'Esmerda. Explored and documented by members of the espeleodijous group, who visited it on 11 May 2017.
