Description

Morphology

It is a typical tectonic cavity where fracture morphology is dominant. The proximity of the cliff and the network of fissures parallel to the crag cause its widening through decompression. The whole approach slope shows various fractures that cause hollows of different lengths and depths, normally open to the sky.

The Avenc de Cantacorbs is the one that allows a greater descent. As can be seen in the topography we present, it has two distinct sections, a superficial one that reaches 6 metres deep and has a rather angular layout; the other end, this one already underground, is what we can properly call a pit; it follows a single direction with a first shaft with a ledge at -4 and a narrow bottom at -10, in depth, or else it is blocked by boulders or its narrow dimensions do not allow descent.

Progression

A lateral step leads us to a new section that opens into a new 7-metre vertical drop by which we reach -22 metres, which was the end of our descent. In total, adding up the data from the survey line, it gives us 86 metres of passage.

History

Cavity explored by members of the GIEM (Montblanc) around the mid-1990s, naming it Avenc Montse Travé and which, as they left no record, remained unpublished. It was not until 2014 that two members of the SIE (Josu and Lluïsa) rediscovered it and observed that the cavity had been explored previously but the paint giving the name at the entrance is completely illegible, so they decided to name it with the toponym that appears on the ICGC map, Avenc de Cantacorbs. On 16 March 2017, they themselves together with colleagues from the espeleodijous, explored the cavity while carrying out the cataloguing work.
