Characteristics

Location

Almost at km 34 of the L-401 road from Coll de Jou to Coll de Nargó, about 4 km after Canalda, you will find on your left a track leading to the Cavallera estate, currently Roc Falcon, dedicated to falconry. You will pass some installations, and level with the two immense breeding cages (7 storeys high!), take the fork on the left. About a hundred metres later, after crossing the ravine, you can leave the vehicle right beside a pool. From here the track is quite bad and it is better to go on foot. Follow the path, ignoring the first, second and third forks you will come across on your left until you reach a junction. Now you must take the new path to the right, which leads as far as l'Esplugapalla. All in all, a good half hour's walk. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

There are three well-defined rooms and a smaller one, as well as a half-collapsed bread oven. The dry-stone walls that remain standing still reach two metres, with some plum trees in front of them. On the east side of the rock shelter there are two small cavities, a high one that makes use of a large flowstone hanging from the wall and another hidden by the vegetation, larger and more accessible.

Speleothems

A large flowstone hangs from the wall in the high cavity on the east side of the rock shelter.

Progression

Follow the path, ignoring the first, second and third forks you will come across on your left until you reach a junction. Now you must take the new path to the right, which leads as far as l'Esplugapalla. All in all, a good half hour's walk.

Other details

The walls blatantly show human activity on the rock in the black colour of soot. There is also scree on the ground. Birds nest above the rock shelters.

History

Known in the area since time immemorial. Surveyed in 2004 by S. Codina (CE Solsonès).
