A 20-metre-long cave in Benavent de la Conca, with an entrance of 1.27X1.58 metres, white flowstone and small formations.

Characteristics

Location

On the C-74 road, once past the coll de Comiols heading towards Benavent de la Conca, at kilometre 30.38 we find on the right a small stretch of the old road that serves for parking. This point is located just below a power line; it will be necessary to climb the slope below the line until reaching the electricity transmission tower located 66 metres further up. From here we will continue climbing 18 metres more in height, but veering to the left towards the nearby gully; inside the gully is the cavity, normally covered by a large pile of brambles.

Description

Morphology

An entrance of 1.27X1.58 metres gives way to a gallery 20 metres long, with an average width of a couple of metres, while the height decreases from the entrance with 1.58 metres to the end of the cave with only 0.44 metres, except for a dome located 7 metres from the entrance where it rises up to 4.76 metres.

Speleothems

At this point we find a white flowstone, while at the end of the cave we also find some small formations.

History

Known since ancient times in Benavent de la Conca. It was explored by Ll. Amat (GIE) on 18-08-1965; and by F. Español, M. Ubach, Ll. Auroux, E. Reyes and O. Escolà on 19-09-1967.
