Characteristics

Location

On the C-13 road, also known as the Doll road, heading towards Tremp, just a few metres after the coll de Fontllonga and on the left of the road, a track begins that initially heads south but soon takes a SW direction, passes under a high-voltage line and reaches another power line, which we must follow southwards until the track ends a few metres further on; we will continue under the power line to the next pylon, where the steep descent begins. At this point and on the right we find a cairn that marks the start of a half-lost path that runs more or less level towards the SW until reaching the start of a small cliff which we will follow along its base, we will pass some overhangs and a little further on the path passes between the two entrances, the upper one at the foot of the cliff is covered by scrub, while the lower one is in a depression reached by a short scramble down.

Description

Morphology

The upper entrance consists of three chambers of reduced dimensions, in the last of which the connection with the lower sector opens.

The new sector is formed by a pit 17 metres by 0.6 metres average width; at its base another pit of 19 metres opens with a width that ranges between 0.4 and 0.6 metres. At the base the last vertical drop of 16 metres of depth opens, with ramp sections. At the end, a small sub-horizontal section can be followed while the narrowness allows.

Progression

Through the lower entrance, after a 4-metre drop one follows a fissure with a steep gradient and unstable floor to a widening; one must climb a step between blocks and descend on the other side to a second ramp full of dust that leads to the maximum depth reached in 1983.

A 10-metre climb places us in front of a narrowness that connects with the new sector.

History

Located in 1973 by members of the GELL who explored it, attributing to it a depth of 60 metres.

In 1982, following the writing of the speleology chapter of the book “El Montsec i muntanyes veïnes”, Josep M. Molgó and Josep LL. Gàzquez, after many attempts, relocated the cavity and carried out the survey that gives -61 metres.

It is not until 2005 that the GELL returns to the cavity and finds the continuation that brings the current depth to -103 metres.

In the gallery numerous remains of burials, hand-made pottery and flint remains were found. It is a collective burial cave dated to some moment of the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age.
