Characteristics

Location

From the small village of Alberola (Os de Balaguer), we head E, along a track that ends in some cultivated fields; through the middle of these runs a power line with wooden poles (at this point we are already in the municipality of les Avellanes i Santa Linya); we follow the line along a path that runs parallel to it, until we reach the height of the fourth pole. We head towards it and continue N, in the direction of the ravine in front of us, which we ascend along its right bank. As we ascend it we gradually bear W, to reach the flat area between this ravine and the next one to the W. The cavity is located on this flat area in the middle of a holm oak wood.

Description

Morphology

An entrance about 5 metres long by 1.50 metres wide gives access to a shaft of just over 6 metres deep. At its base, we find a chamber of about 12X7X5 metres. From the base of the entrance shaft we find a downward slope of 22º to the end of the chamber, where the cavity ends at -11.40 metres deep, with a length of 18.65 metres.

History

Known since long ago by the people of Alberola, it served as a hiding place during the war of 1936-39.

Members of GELL-CEL, based on information provided by a villager, located and explored it during 2016.

In 2017 members of GELL-CEL and ERE-CEC returned to carry out cataloguing work.
