Small cave with a 27 m passage in the area of the Santuari de Bellmunt (Osona), with a narrow, descending gallery that ends blocked between boulders and sediments at the -9.5 m level.

Characteristics

Location

From Sant Pere de Torelló one must go up (by asphalted track) to the Santuari de Bellmunt. Once at the top, shortly before reaching the sanctuary (collet de les Alades), one must follow for about 250 metres, in a SW direction, the path that runs along the ridge of Serra Grenyada until reaching the collet del Cabrit. From here one must descend by the S slope along a very steep and slippery incline until reaching a narrow, barely visible rocky outcrop, where the small entrance of the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

One enters through a narrow gallery, slightly descending and about 10 metres long. From here, the passage gains verticality and after overcoming a couple of drops one reaches a short gallery that soon becomes blocked between boulders and sediments (-9.5 m level).

Hydrology

Cavity of purely mechanical origin without signs of open water circulation in a package of Eocene sandstones with intercalations of conglomerates and lutites.

History

It seems that this cavity and other nearby ones that remain unpublished were explored around the year 1994 by members of the Espeleo Club Osona. Despite this, the only known data are those taken from the visit carried out by the SIE – CEA on 14 June 2009.
