Esquerda de 19 metres de fondària i 168 metres de recorregut a Margalef.

Margalef • Priorat168m19m

A 19-metre-deep fissure with 168 metres of passage in Margalef, explored by the GELL in April 1998.

Characteristics

Location

Located on the pla de l'Auferí, right at the ledge that overlooks the barranc de la Taverna. To get there, the best way is to take the path that climbs to l'Auferí and leaves the barranc de la Taverna on the other side of the bridge, at the edge of the reservoir. The path is quite hard to follow. We will climb up to the pla de l'Auferí and turn in a westerly direction until we arrive above the barranc de la Taverna; then we will follow along the edge of the cliff in the direction of the reservoir. The fissure is easily located thanks to some blocks of curious shapes that give the fissure its name. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

You enter the fissure between blocks and scrub and reach a gallery one and a half metres wide. At 10 metres from the entrance and on the left, behind a fallen block, a shaft descends to -17 metres, where there is a small chamber from which another ascending gallery leads off and becomes obstructed after a few metres. Continuing again on the outside and this time on the right, we find another small shaft that reaches a small chamber where a short descending gallery begins and where the maximum depth is reached. Here the main fissure gradually widens and becomes an ascent, meeting a gallery of reduced dimensions on the right, together where the fissure is wider. Continuing along the main fissure, the cliff narrows the gallery, which continues climbing some 15 metres more and turns right to descend wide for 25 metres, where it turns left into a narrow slot that becomes impassable after a few metres. Entering the small fissure that we had found earlier, we will see how one reaches a small chamber and goes around a large block to return once again to the main fissure.
