Characteristics

Location

From La Masieta, where the vehicle parking for going to the Congost de mont-rebei is located, we will follow the track in the direction of the gorge for about 100 metres, where we will turn left onto a track that runs almost parallel to the previous one but at a higher level (this path is used to go to the gorge when the reservoir is full). After 750 metres we reach a col where we find the ruins of a building; we must follow the path on the left, marked with green and white paint and heading towards the barranc de la Maçana and les carboneres. The path continues in a slight climb up to the spot where the barrancs of la Maçana and de Sant Jaume meet; from here the path descends rapidly in the direction of the barranc, at a specific point we leave the path and descend in the direction of the barranc where we find some thick ropes that facilitate the descent, we cross the barranc and climb up the other slope until we find the path again, we will follow it for 150 metres and right beside the path on the left we will find the mouth of the avenc del Camí del Barranc de la Maçana, we will continue 50 metres further on and also on the left and right beside the path we will find the mouth of the cave.

Description

Morphology

The mouth gives access to a ramp between blocks that allows access to a comfortable gallery with slight concretion.

History

Explored by the GELL in 2000. The explorers call it “Coveta del Camí del Barranc de la Massana”; we have made the correction of this name since the official gazetteer of toponymy of Catalonia cites it as barranc de la Maçana.
