Description

Morphology

These are three cavities opened at the foot of respective waterfalls of the barranc de les Coves. The one situated at the greatest height, la Cova nº 1 de Fideu, is the smallest in size: an opening 10 m wide and a maximum height of 1.5 m that diminishes down to the 6 m of length of the inner chamber.

Some 15 m below this one, at the foot of another waterfall, is la Cova nº 2 de Fideu: an opening 14 m wide and about 2 m high at the entrance overhang, diminishing to half at the back of the chamber, which has a length of 10 m.

At the last waterfall is la Cova del Fideu proper, the one with the widest opening, about 24 m, and about 4 m high, diminishing as one penetrates into the chamber, which is about 7 m deep.

Other details

The left half of the concavity of la Cova del Fideu is closed off with a stone wall in which the remains of the access door are still preserved.

History

Known since remote times. Marked on the ICGC map.

It seems that its name is due to the shepherd who kept the livestock inside and who was known as Fideu.

Visited in 2019 by members of the CE Dinàmics during a campaign of canyon discovery in Arnes.
