Tagamanent • Vallès Oriental 7m

Small cave with a 7 m passage at the entrance of Aiguafreda (Tagamanent, Vallès Oriental), with a gallery 0.70 m wide at its maximum.

Characteristics

Location

On entering the town of Aiguafreda from the C-17 motorway there is a fork, to the left towards the town centre and to the right towards Avencó; right at this point, to the right of the road and at the foot of the crag, is the cave mouth. Currently (2014) and for years, the mouth is completely hidden by an impenetrable jungle of brambles.

Although it has always been placed in the municipality of Aiguafreda, once its exact location was confirmed it turns out that, although only by a few metres, it belongs to the municipal area of Tagamanent.

Description

Morphology

A large fallen block that must be climbed gives access to the entrance of the cavity. This consists solely of a gallery 7 metres long and 0.70 metres wide at its maximum, which narrows progressively until it becomes impassable.

Progression

A large fallen block that must be climbed gives access to the entrance of the cavity.

History

It seems likely that the cave was discovered during the first half of the 1960's when the first access track to the hamlet of Avencó was opened.

The oldest reference we have of a speleological visit corresponds to the GIE of the Club Excursionista de Gràcia in 1966. Some time later and among others, it is visited by members of the GE Pedraforca (1973) who make a survey (unpublished until now) and two years later, members of the Grup Geogràfic de Gràcia also visit and survey it, being the only ones who make it known in the literature. We also have records of various visits of biospeleological interest (Lagar, 1966 and 1967), J. Comas (1970).

At some point someone named the cavity Cova del Camí.
