Small cave with a 5-metre passage in the barranc de la Pixera, in Capafonts, with a wide 3.5-metre entrance.

Characteristics

Location

Leaving the village of Capafonts along the TV-7041 road towards Mont-ral, at kilometre 21.220 a track leaves to the right; after a few metres we find a path on the left with a sign for la Foradada. Follow it and, on a steep slope, climb without losing the way up to la Foradada. Once past it, the path continues climbing until a turn-off to the right is found; we continue climbing until reaching the base of a cliff where all the caves and the spring known as Escudelleta are found. Cave no. 8 is 12 metres from cave no. 9 in the direction of the head of the barranc de la Pixera.

Hydrology

From the bottom, at certain times, a small inflow of water emerges.

History

Despite having been known since distant times by the people of the area, the first mention we find is due to J. Ferraté (1918), who mentions the group of caves, calling them Coves de l'Escudelleta.

J. Iglésies and J. Santasusagna (1930), in their hiking guide to the Muntanyes de Prades, also mention them, but specify that the most important of all of them is the one called Cova del Grèvol.

In 1968 and 1969, members of the Grup Geogràfic de Gràcia (later EC de Gràcia) visited the cova del Grèvol, calling it la Cova de l'Escudelleta.

In 1981 and 1982, members of the SIEP – CE Poblet de Barcelona carried out a compilation work of the whole set of cavities and numbered them (1 to 10), but called them del Barranc de la Pixera, although it would have been more correct to call them Coves de l'Escudelleta.
