Cave with 18 metres of passage in Vallirana, discovered and explored by the SEO of the Centre Excursionista de Vallirana in January 1996.

Characteristics

Location

The cliff of the Salt del Bou is located to the left and below the track that leads from the Mas de les Fonts to Begues, shortly after passing the Font del Mas. Standing at the base of this cliff, a nesting place for birds of prey, we find a large, very visible rock shelter with two openings, set halfway up the cliff. At the torrent-waterfall on the left and below the first large step, the cova gran is found half hidden by a large rocky spur, accessible by an easy climb. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

Climbing a few metres up the “waterfall”, we reach a 3x4 metre portal at the stepped edge of the same cliff. An ascending ramp of 5 metres places us in a triangular chamber of 14x8x3 metres. The very irregular floor is covered with blocks and a thick layer of earth. At the highest end, a horizontal crawlway opens through which a few metres can be probed behind a narrow bend. The total passage is 18 metres and the elevation change is +5 metres.

History

Discovered and explored by the SEO of the Centre Excursionista de Vallirana in January 1996.
