Naut Aran • Val d'Aran 13m 4m

Cave with a 13 m passage south of Cap dera Serra (Naut Aran).

Characteristics

Location

The cavity opens to the south of the Serra de Comalada and of Cap dera Serra (2247 m); the name shown on the Alpina map is Arròques de Macià.

From Salardú, follow the C-28 road towards the Baqueira station. At the entrance, take the fork to the left towards Pla de Beret (C-142b), which joins at its start with the access road to the Orri car park (sign).

Park near the Pèira Hicada menhir and the Garona de Beret spring (Uelh deth Garona).

We will cross the road (C-142b) heading NW towards the Noguera Pallaresa spring and then join a track that climbs the mountainside up to a small spot where there is a rectangular stone circle structure, in a place called Eth Maupàs.

The entrance to the cavity is a few tens of metres above the aforementioned structure, on a small platform located halfway up the slope of a small limestone cliff.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, triangular in shape, measures 2.30 x 1.25 metres and gives access to a horizontal gallery of the same dimensions up to a block that partially obstructs the gallery, although it leaves a passage between it and the ceiling.

Beyond that, the gallery widens for a few metres before turning into a 1.20 x 1.20 metre conduit with a floor covered in stones.

The conduit climbs up to a chimney that ends in a narrow, impenetrable 0.80 x 0.30 m passage full of small blocks.

History

Isaure Gratacos and Georges Jauzion discovered the cavity some years ago, during one of their campaigns of prospecting and study of the structures and petroglyphs of the Pla de Beret.
