Camarasa • Noguera 5m

Small cave on the cingle del Puig de Sant Jordi, in Camarasa, with an entrance of 4 x 1.55 metres and a chamber 5.17 metres deep.

Characteristics

Location

Situated at the ermita de Sant Jordi, on the side where the refugi lliure is. Just in front of the refugi there is a wooden railing; behind it a path emerges that descends in the direction of Camarasa. After descending steeply for about a hundred metres, one finds a step equipped with metal rungs and, at the end of it, a rope with knots (data from 2017). At this point one leaves the path and follows the terrace on the left, where after the first bend of the cingle the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

It is a small cave located at the base of the cingle where the ermita de Sant Jordi is. The entrance, 4 x 1.55 metres, gives access to a chamber 5.17 metres deep; from the halfway point there is an accumulation of sediments that ends up blocking the cavity.

Progression

To reach it one must follow the path that descends in the direction of Camarasa, overcome a step equipped with metal rungs and a rope with knots (data from 2017), leave the path and follow the terrace on the left to the cavity.

History

Explored by GEFOMA in 1970, but this exploration became part of the book of oblivion and it was never returned to again. At that time neither the path nor the rungs to reach it existed, but it was thought appropriate to give it this name.

It happens that following the terrace a little further on, on the wall of the cingle and somewhat elevated, the entrance of a cave can be seen: it is the cova de l'Àliga, also explored by GEFOMA in 1970. This one has about 15 metres of ascending passage, with some formations but rather decalcified. It was never returned to again, since the risk of rockfalls from the rock that forms the entrance mouth do not make its access advisable.
