Characteristics

Location

Located in the water shaft next to the chapel of Sant Jordi. We will head W for 85 metres, just above a small ledge, placing ourselves at the start of a small channel (ETRS89 X:325502; Y:4639402). We will descend S, along the side of the channel, to about 9 metres below, and in the very middle of the channel we will find the cave entrance.

About 10 metres to the E, and practically at the same level, there is a small, narrow cave of less than 5 metres of passage.

Description

Morphology

An entrance 1 x 2 metres divided in two by a block gives way to a gallery of 33 metres, where its dimensions vary notably from one point to another.

Progression

At 22 metres from the entrance, we find a 5-metre shaft that gives access to a gallery of 10 metres; at one of its ends a 3-metre shaft leads to a ledge, immediately finding another 3-metre drop that places us in a gallery of 8 metres, which gives us access to the final 10-metre drop.

History

Known in Camarasa since time immemorial. Explored by GEFOMA in 1970; in 1973 they surveyed it. In this cave a rifle was found buried and wrapped in a sack, by its characteristics probably dating from the war of 1936, hence the name initially given to it; later they learned that the cave was known in Camarasa by the name of the saint of the chapel.
