Characteristics

Location

Following the Núria rack railway line in the direction of Queralbs, it is found 41 metres from the exit of the tunnel that crosses the cova de Rialb, 7 metres before reaching the Cova Penjada and 6 metres above the track. Description

Morphology

A single narrow gallery of semicircular section makes up this small cavity. The development is descending and after 5 metres it is practically filled by sediments that prevent all progress. It could be a fossilised branch of the neighbouring Cova Penjada.

Progression

The development is descending and after 5 metres it is practically filled by sediments that prevent all progress. To reach it one must crawl underneath a block.

Other details

We have no record of the existence of any survey of this cavity.

History

This is one of several small cavities that were explored and catalogued during the year 1972 by members of the SIE – CEA in the surroundings of the Coves de Rialb. Although it was catalogued as Cova del Tut, its original name, which we have wished to recover, is that of Cova del Tub. It turns out that when the name was painted at its entrance, the paint ran short and there was only enough to paint a T at the end instead of a B. That is to say, let no one look for a relation with Tut/Tuta (cave) and even less because of the nearby presence of the cave known as the Tut de Fustanyà.
