A 28 m long cave in Serradell (Pallars Jussà), formed by a single large-volume chamber with an ascending sediment ramp and a stalagmitic crust with small gours.

Characteristics

Location

At the confluence of the barranc de Boscarrera with the del Querant de l'Os, on a crag of limestone that outcrops at this point, below the conglomeratic reliefs of Lleràs. West of the village of Serradell.

The best access is about 700 mt. before the parking area of the cova Cuberes, just when the track makes a right-hand curve uphill. From here we descend to the ravine along a path and after about 600 metres through the middle of the ravine in a NW direction we reach the foot of a crag where we find the cave. There are some cairns along the way.

Description

Morphology

Cavity formed by a single large-volume chamber that, via an ascending sediment ramp, reaches the upper part of the gallery.

Speleothems

The upper part of the gallery is filled by a stalagmitic crust where some small gours are formed.

Hydrology

Below the sediments a small stream of water appears that flows outside and that, at first, suggested that it could be the spring of the Cova Cuberes, but years later this hypothesis had to be discarded after the dye tracing tests carried out.

History

Known since ancient times by the people of the area. Speleologically recognised during the 1961 campaign by members of the then GEEB (later GE de Badalona), thinking that it could be the spring of the Cova Cuberes.

In January 1973, the brothers Eduard and Albert Martínez (ERE - CEC) carried out the survey of the cavity, which had remained unpublished until now.
