Isona i Conca Dellà • Pallars Jussà 20m

An 80-metre-wide and 20-metre-deep rock shelter in Comiols, Isona i Conca Dellà, documented by the GE Lleidatà in 1991.

Characteristics

Location

On the L-512 road from Artesa de Segre to Tremp, once past Montargull, about 1800 metres further on, on the left and at a bend, we find the turn-off to the farmhouses of Tòrrec. After passing cal Sala we will turn right towards cal Vansa; 125 metres before reaching the farmhouse, we will find a track on the left suitable for 4x4 vehicles; we will follow it for about 1700 metres where we will find a junction; we will continue to the left for about 200 metres where we will find a wide place to turn around and park. From here we will follow the track until we reach the bed of the ravine at the point where it crosses it. From here we can see, in a N direction and at the top of the mountain, the chapel of Santa Anna, as well as the torrent that descends on its right until reaching a waterfall at the base of the cliff; at the base of this waterfall is the rock shelter.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter 80 metres wide where we find several small adjoining chambers up to 20 metres deep.

Progression

To reach it one can go up the slope from the ravine, which in this stretch changes its name from barranc de la Font Freda to barranc de la Jona, or else follow the path to the balmes de Gramenet and once there take the little path that climbs to Montadó; when we have climbed above the balmes de Gramenet, instead of continuing westwards, we must go towards the S, going around the foot of the cliff that forms a spur; once around this we will follow the same stratum until reaching the cave.

History

The first report about this cavity is provided by the GE Lleidatà in 1991. On the map of the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya it appears marked with the name cova de la Font del Camí (?).
